Imaging Services
All imaging services are provided by board-certified Bryn Mawr Hospital radiologists and radiology technologists. Images are taken digitally and saved to our Picture Archival and Communications System (PACS), a high-definition radiologic technology network. From our Newtown Square location, we are able to connect to a high-speed network which allows us to share high-resolution images and patient information throughout the entire Main Line Health system, consult with other specialists and deliver prompt, accurate diagnoses. If you need your films to take to your doctor, we can print them for you or make a CD of them. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 1-610-886-6000.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (or MRI) is a unique tool that constructs cross-sectional pictures of internal organs and structures using radio waves and magnets. MRI technology utilizes a powerful magnet to create a magnetic field that attracts and aligns hydrogen atoms inside the body. Radio wave pulses are then focused on the aligned atoms in a specific organ or body part. These radio signals are returned to a computer which translates them into three-dimensional images that radiologists can use to depict small and hidden structures within organs, blood vessels or joints or to contrast benign and cancerous tissue.
X-Ray
Radiography, or X-ray, as it is most commonly known, is the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. X-rays can produce diagnostic images of the human body on film or digitally on a computer screen. X-ray imaging is extremely fast and provides a rapid method of evaluating the entire body, especially the joints, bones and chest cavity.
64-Slice CT Scan
In just a fraction of a second this CT scanner is able to produce 64 images per rotation. This means new diagnostic power in diagnosing patients with chest pain and ruling out blockages. This CT scanner offers the ability to provide a compressive view of the coronary arteries in five heartbeats.
Screening Mammography
Digital mammography captures images and converts them to a computerized display, offering greater clarity and reducing the need for additional call backs. In addition, our computer-aided detection software provides a "second look" at films, increasing our cancer detection rate.
Patients who are having routine mammograms and have no current breast health issues are able to schedule their digital mammogram at the Bryn Mawr Hospital Health Center. Our experienced and trusted breast imaging radiologists will read your screening study at the Comprehensive Breast Center on the Main Campus of Bryn Mawr Hospital, and your results will then be sent directly to you in the mail.
Bone Densitometry
DEXA scanning or bone densitometry is a simple, painless procedure used to measure bone mineral density and accurately diagnose osteoporosis.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a procedure that uses high-frequency, inaudible sound waves that penetrate the body and "echo" off the internal organs to produce high-resolution images. The returning "echoes" are processed by a computer to produce high-resolution detailed images in real-time — a feature that's useful for visualizing movement and intricate details in tissues, organs and blood vessels.
