Echocardiography
A non-invasive test using ultrasound and Doppler technology that scans the motion of the heart. The study evaluates the blood flow in the heart as well as evaluating the chambers, valves and major blood vessels of the heart.
Stress Echocardiography
This study involves a resting echocardiogram which will provide a baseline for the size and function of the various chambers of the heart. After the resting study is complete, the patient will walk on the treadmill. The heart rhythm will be monitored for any abnormalities. Immediately following exercise a repeat echocardiogram will evaluate the function of the various heart chambers after exercise.
Treadmill (Exercise) Stress Testing
This measures the electrical activity of the heart before, during and after exercise. Think of it as an "EKG in motion." This test can tell how well your heart handles stress/exercise. As you walk on the treadmill there is an increase in oxygen demand which will increase blood flow to the heart. Your heart rhythm will be monitored for any abnormalities that could signify a blockage.
Nuclear Stress Test
Combines the above test with detailed images of the heart which provide doctors with important information about the blood flow and structure of your heart. The images are made possible by the injection of a small amount of a radioactive tracer, followed by pictures under a special gamma camera. A pharmacological version of this procedure is available to those patients who are unable to walk on a treadmill.
MUGA Scan
This is a non-invasive procedure which provides doctors with an accurate and reproducible means by which to evaluate several essential features of cardiac function. MUGA scans involve the injection of a radioactive tracer which makes possible detailed moving images of the heart.
Cardiac CT Angiography
Main Line Health Imaging and the Bryn Mawr Hospital Health Center have teamed up to bring your patients Cardiac CT Angiogram, a revolutionary, non-invasive imaging procedure that delivers high-resolution views of the heart and coronary arteries in mere seconds. Using a 64-slice CT scanner, clinicians can capture the heart in just five beats.
