Bryn Mawr Hospital to Expand Services to Outpatient Health Center

Bryn Mawr Hospital is set to officially "break ground" Wednesday July 12, 2006 at 11:00 AM on its new outpatient health center to be built on Route 3 near the intersection of Route 252 in Newtown Square, Delaware County. Hospital officials will be joined by State Senator Ted Erickson, State Representative Tom Killion, Newtown Township Supervisors, Planning Commission members and local residents for the event.

The three-story 130,000 square foot Bryn Mawr Hospital Health Center will include an imaging diagnostic center, a cancer center, cardiac rehabilitation, non-invasive cardiology testing, adult and pediatric physical medicine services, diabetes management, a sleep medicine center and laboratory services. The new facility will house physician offices offering primary care, obstetrics, medical and surgical specialists. Also proposed are a 19,000 square foot Ambulatory Procedure Center and a healing garden to help patients and their families reduce stress and feel more comfortable. The health center will open by July 2007.

"We are expanding to a location that is convenient to the thousands of residents who already come to our hospital for their healthcare," explained Andrea Gilbert, Bryn Mawr Hospital President. "For more than 110 years, we have reached out to serve our growing community. In the spirit of that tradition, we are building a modern Bryn Mawr Hospital Health Center with highly qualified staff and physicians and state of the art technology in a warm and comfortable environment. That is our goal."

The new health center will be part of Ellis Preserve, a 210-acre master planned development that is currently proposed by BPG Development Company to include a fully integrated mixture of office, retail and residential uses in a town square setting. If approved, Ellis Preserve Town Square will offer upscale retail, dining, a possible movie theatre, a hotel and conference center, office space and residential uses. The development will be thoughtfully designed and connected by open air central plazas and pedestrian walkways. Presently Ellis Preserve is a unique corporate campus, offering a variety of office space alternatives including a recently renovated 240,000 square foot office/research and development building and three stone cottages that are available for lease.

BPG Development Company President Steve Spaeder says "we are excited to be breaking ground on this new health center which will increase the convenience and quality of healthcare for local residents. Main Line Health and Bryn Mawr Hospital epitomize the top quality partners that we are attracting to Ellis Preserve." Spaeder adds "our goal is for Ellis Preserve to enhance the quality of life in Newtown Square and attract high end services, stores and restaurants that residents will value."
